So I'm finally finished re-reading all the pre-COIE Infinity Inc. issues, and, oh man, I forgot how much I love the flashback to the time eleven-year-old Lyta and Hec and Rick and Al took Wonder Woman's invisible plane for a joy ride to fetch the baseball with ninth metal stuck to it with gum, and ended up almost crashing into the capitol building. First of all, because Rick is a tiny failure, and Al discovers he loves planes, and Lyta is adorable and wants to be her mom when she grows up, and Lyta and Hec have a relationship based on threatening to punch each other in the face. Second of all, because taking Wonder Woman's invisible plane for a joy ride. Third of all, because this is the issue where they officially wipe Golden Age Wonder Woman from continuity (before she can be replaced with Hippolyta in the old JSA), and they do this by having Hank wipe Lyta's mind of all memories of her dead parents because he's trying to help, and then he goes and cries. OH HENRY KING JR., YOU ARE SO BAD AT BEING GOOD.

Talk about fashion magazines and the modeling industry, and the fictional modeling industry of the DCU. Discussion of body weight. Nothing about weight loss or anything, but cut in case any frank discussion of body weight may be potentially triggery to any flisters. )

The Avon catalog someone left at the register also had Yasmin Le Bon and Eva Pigford in it. Also, Mario Lopez, but I was not as depressed that I knew who Mario Lopez was as I was about knowing who Yasmin Le Bon and Eva Pigford were.

Anyway, guys, IT IS SO SNOWY AND GROSS OUT. I DO NOT WANT TO GO TO WORK TOMORROW, BUT I MUST.

So first of all, I am actually making New Year's Resolutions this year. They are as follows:
1. Take more walks. I have a treadmill, and I should make more use of it, even if running apparently is not something that's going to work for me. (Yes, my leg is still injured. Chronic bursitis is not what I was hoping I'd get out of C25K.)
2. Try to write one story per month this year. This has been my New Year's Resolution for every year since like 2003, and I have not achieved it yet, but why not!
3. Work on my Spanish more. You know, know more than three verbs. That sort of thing.
4. I'm going to come up with a number of books to read and movies to watch (probably 50 of each, but I'm not sure. I'll be keeping track of them on a media post, but I am not planning to write up responses. Perhaps I should. Would you be interested in that, flist?)

Up to 62.7% completion on Lego Batman. I have all the keys and have played through all 30 scenes, and I'm starting to go through on Free Play, and I have no idea where some of the minikits, Joker cards, and red blocks are still. I may have to start looking for walkthroughs for some of these.

Okay, also, are any of you watching Launch My Line? I am kind of sad Vanessa is not on the show anymore after last week because she always made the most hilarious trainwrecky outfits. But this week... )

hiatus

Undetermined hiatus. I feel like I need to take a step back from the Internet, do some job/intern hunting, and just get out more. I will still check my mail and my flist (journals only, not comms). I will still be around Twitter and Facebook, too.

Best regards to all of you. <3
Icons from INFINITY INC. #19-23 + the 1985 Annual! Beth, Rick, and Yolanda start putting on spandex to fight crime! Molly Mayne and Alan Scott get married! Hank and Jen get it on in a cave! Albert and Todd have pages in which they wear only their underwear! It was Crisis on Infinite Earths at the time, so outdoors shots tend to have really hideous pink backgrounds, sorry.

Uh. If you have not read Infinity Inc, but want context for anything or information on a character in an icon, just ask! I am more than happy to detail more details than you want detailed, let me tell you what.

Comments and credit are nice, but not necessary. All icons are shareable. Feel free to repurpose any of these as bases.

In other news, I am so stuck on Lego Star Wars I went out and bought Lego Batman instead. It was clearly designed by someone who is totally in love with Catwoman. She can do almost everything. It's amazing. In other news, I remain baffled that Nightwing can't double jump. I mean OF ALL PEOPLE.

More Infinity Inc. icons! We're finally to the Todd McFarlane art, although the page layouts have not gotten super weird yet. These are only from INFINITY INC. #12-18, as I am a bit tired, but have enough icons here to post some. Lots of ladies in bikinis in this batch; no dudes in speedos, much to my consternation, but the art just wasn't very good for iconing them, and sometimes the inker forgot to color in Todd's suit. :(

Organized slightly differently this time, as I've stopped saving icons by character name. All characters who are or will be members of Infinity Inc. are under that group. Helix members, villains, and assorted secondary characters will be under a second grouping. Speech bubbles still have their own section.

[info]violin_road: I made #82 with you in mind! :D?

Yuletide stories have been revealed! I didn't really participate, but I wrote a Yuletide Madness story!

Okay, whatever, I have already posted within the past 24 hours. I don't care! I am being spammy. So I am making some more icons, and I am finally to the issues drawn by Todd McFarlane, which is um. Not a recommendation for a lot of people, but much like I actually really liked Rob Liefeld's work (okay, Karl Kesel's work, let's be honest) on the Hawk and Dove miniseries, I find McFarlane's work on Infinity Inc really charming. Mostly because I'm sort of in love with his layouts, and also because he's sort of in the proto-form of his CAPES ARE TOTALLY AWESOME. BRB MAKING THIS CAPE TAKE UP THE WHOLE PAGE thing. Which means that on any page on which Obsidian appears, he will be more lovingly drawn than anybody else because Obsidian has a giant fuck-off cape on his costume.

Speaking of Obsidian, I kind of forgot that he spends #14 & #15 really pissed off at a sexless alien who loves rainbows..

Also, Marcie Cooper has a tee-shirt that says "I ♥ unicorns", a swimsuit that says "I ♥ dragons", and apparently a parakeet named Rodan. Oh, kiddo.
31st-Dec-2009 10:21 pm - important announcement
Fuck Emperor Palpatine.

And I'll bet once you beat him and can add him to your character list, he suddenly will kick way less ass, too. (If he doesn't, he will be my new go-to Sith for free play *______*)

Um. And Happy New Year and stuff.

So I promised there would be Infinity Inc. icons, and there are! Here are 181 icons made from INFINITY INC. #1-12 and the team's appearances in ALL-STAR SQUADRON (#25-27 + 1983 Annual). There are also a couple in here from later Infinity Inc. issues (I think the annual?), but I decided to upload them now just to keep things organized. Yes, I will be making more.

I did not make any old-timey lady!Ultra-Humanite icons, although when I finally get around to actually reading more than the first eight issues of ASS (hee!), I probably will end up doing so. I don't know why I love the Ultra-Humanite so much, but I really do! He's so ridiculous.

I'm slooowly working my way through Infinity Inc. because I am iconing everything, but I just came upon the time when Jen and Todd had to fight Alan Scott while he was brainwashed and crazy, and Jen and Alan banter about Star Wars during their little swordfight.

So, Jason Bay is a Met now? I could have lots of smart words here, but instead I will settle for: LOLOLOL.

Up to 39.7% completion on Lego Star Wars and I'm totally stuck on my first play through of Hoth right now. I accidentally clicked through the little screen that explained to me how to trip the big giant walking robot thing (you know the one!) and apparently you can't defeat it by shooting it! You have to trip it up. So, uh, I guess I'll be trying to figure out how to do this from the internet. Or, uh, keep replaying the Darth Maul boss fight until I manage to do it without ending up with negative studs at the end. WHY DO YOU HATE ME HAVING MONEY, DARTH MAUL. WHY.

Also I WILL NEVER GET TO 100% COMPLETION because I cannot get through the piloting sequences with only one ship. TRUFAX: I AM A BAD VIDEOGAME DRIVER.

Going to make some Infinity Inc icons to entertain myself, I think. Any requests? I promise I will even try to make some Hector Hall icons even though I want to punch him in the face instead.

Actually wrote something today, which puts my current word count for this thing at 6250 words with no end in sight, but I feel this is going to be one of those times where maybe 30% of the original draft makes it anywhere near the actual internet, since I'm mostly just writing stuff that seems like a good idea at the time, and most of it is me rehashing things that actually happened in the comics. (Although on the other had, hey, why not? It's not like anyone's actually read them!) My point here is that I am really bad at writing things that don't suck.

Up to 36.5% completion on Lego Star Wars. I'm kind of tempted to play more tonight, but my left wrist hurts a little bit. Bleh.

Some dude on OKCupid wants me to join his gaming group. I'm so completely tempted, to be honest. (I'm mostly just interested in being this guy's friend, but who knows? LET ME TELL YOU WHAT I HAVE LEARNED FROM OKCUPID: I have way more of a type than I thought I did. Also, I think I may have been Bruce Wayne in a former life.)
You guys. You guys. I am finally getting around to reading the half of the Infinity Inc./Teen Titans team-up that ran in New Teen Titans v2. The art is much better than the hideousness that was in the half that appeared in Infinity Inc. Also, it is kind of hilarious. By which I mean,

1. Gar hits on Jade, as you do, to which Jade replies: "Don't make too much out of the fact that we're both green, Changeling. In your case it could just mean you're not ripe yet, y'know." DEAR JEN HAYDEN, MARRY ME.

2. I. I. Look, you know how I have this poster of Robert Smith and Siouxsie Sioux on my wall and it is the best thing ever? The part of me that that poster appeals to is basically never going to get over Obsidian and Raven meeting up with non-crap art )

Up to 12% 19.6% completion in Lego Star Wars. So. Yeah! \o/ And I've played through all of Episode I in story mode because I am awesome!
27th-Dec-2009 03:58 pm - yuletide recs
Some amazing fic this year so I had to make a rec list. This only includes the Yuletide stuff; does not include Yuletide Madness. I'll have another rec list for that later.

american psycho, california diaries, great expectations, icarly, james and the giant peach, juno, jurassic park, quills, repo! the genetic opera, skins, star trek rpf, young wizard series )
27th-Dec-2009 01:40 pm - Yuletide Recs: Part 2
* Facet (Push, Cassie/Nick)
It's future-fic! Cassie is awesome!

* Interview 256 (World War Z; OC)
An interview with someone who was in prison during the zombie apocalypse.

* Pelican State Bay Prison, California, USA (World War Z; OC)
So, several years later, they go in to find out what happened to North Korea.

* Searching for Something that Makes Hearts Move (Whip It; Pash/Maggie Mayhem, Bliss)
This was not a pairing I thought would work for me, but this story is pretty great.

* Settling In (JSA; Obsidian & Sand)
Nobody talks to Todd, and that's not right. :(

* Sparring (JSA; Stargirl & Wildcat I)
So Courtney is adorable and Ted is adorable and together they are most adorable.

* What's Your Objective (JSA; Cyclone/Stargirl)
In which Maxine is a giant dork and Courtney indulges her.
26th-Dec-2009 05:48 am - Yuletide Recs: Part 1
* The Cable & Deadpool Yuletide Special (Marvel Comics, Cable/Deadpool)
Deadpool and Cable go on a romp through Yuletides past. Oh, metafanfic, I'm always gonna think you're kinda neat. Plus, there are Care Bears!

* The Cheap Trick Acceleration (Big Bang Theory, Penny & Sheldon)
Remember that time in Young Avengers when Tiny Kang showed up and Jessica Jones hated time travel, and I was like "OH I AGREE." I take it back. I am actually quite fond of time travel. Also, this is hilarious.

* Chicago (Zombieland, Tallahassee & Little Rock)
In which Tallahassee continues to be a father figure of sorts for Little Rock, and my love of found family stories continues.

* Classic Water (California Diaries, Ducky & Alex)
I sort of fixated on Ducky and Alex's friendship when I first read California Diaries my freshman year of high school, and I don't think I'm ever going to get over them. This is actually just friendship fic, and that's okay.

* El Dia de los Muertos (DC Comics, Blue Beetle ensemble)
Jaime is in trouble, and everybody else has to help him! There's a focus on La Dama and Brenda, but everybody's covered, and it's all really great. Also, Milagro Reyes is basically the cutest kid in the world.

* Hot (Sweet Valley High, Jessica/Lila)
Okay, so nobody's described as being a perfect size six, but this author's ability to mimic some of the hilarious vapidness of SVH writing is actually kind of eerie. Awesome, but eerie.

* Letters (Un)Sent (California Diaries, Ducky/Alex, Dawn)
Dawn actually kind of stole the show for me on this one, but really, um, it's pretty great. Ducky trying to figure out who he is some more.

So I have been playing some Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga for the Nintendo DS, and it totally and completely appeals to the part of me that's played Achievement Unlocked like ten times. I could play more of the storyline, or I could go back in free play mode and get 100% completion. Hmmm. (Technically, I can't go back for 100% completion yet because I don't have Boba Fett, Anakin, or R2D2 yet, but shhh.)

I, of course, keep playing as Qui-Gon whenever I don't have to be a droid because, I mean, really, wouldn't you? Also, yelling "Obi-Wan, you suck!" is fun times! It's not a good sign when you're like "Um. Does this game have infinite continues? :D?" is it? (Note: I am pretty sure it does! I'm still getting used to the controls and I keep accidentally putting my lightsaber away in the middle of fights. Oops.) Also, it's hard to use the Force when you have long fingernails. I guess I could use the stylus, but that sounds like a good way to lose my stylus.

AO3/Yuletide is still giving me fits, so I'm trying to butt out so actual recipients can read their stuff.

Today, Mom and I are watching her tapes of Project Runway season 4, which I have not yet seen because I was without cable when it was airing. So psyched to finally see it! We are also hanging out in our pjs. So festive. (We rewatched season 1 about a week ago, and spent the whole time coming to the horrifying realization that Kevin Johnn is basically the fashion world version of Toby from The Office, and then couldn't unsee it.)
